The planned teaching activity is divided into numerous doctoral courses that cover the research areas of the teaching staff; in the first and second year of the course, the doctoral students, in agreement with the supervisor, will have to choose from the proposed courses those most suitable to their training and research path (for a total of 18 CFU in the first year and 18 CFU in the second year). In addition to these courses, there are seminar cycles as well as courses in national and international specialist schools (8 CFU in each of the three years of the course).
Other teaching activities (seminars, laboratory and research activities, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary training)
Research seminars and seminar cycles, held by teachers of the staff, by external teachers belonging to the three affiliated university locations, and also by visiting professors, will be offered to the doctoral students. These activities will be an opportunity for the doctoral students to engage with the world of scientific research and develop new interactions. These activities will be accompanied by workshops on more specific topics organized in the three university locations.
The University of Messina has a Language Center and an IT platform, "Rosetta Stone" for the acquisition of even advanced language skills. Furthermore, some doctoral courses, especially if attended by foreign doctoral students, will be taught in English. The acquisition of advanced language certifications is also encouraged in light of the fact that the doctoral thesis will be written in English.
Training activities of IT initialization are planned, aimed at acquiring skills in the use of typesetting languages (LaTeX) for the preparation of scientific texts and in the use of advanced scientific calculation software (CoCoA, SageMath, Reduce, Matlab).
Specialist seminars by experts in the sector are planned regarding the management of research at national and international level, the coordination of groups of researchers and the methods of searching for national and international funding channels in order to provide doctoral students with the right skills for compiling funding projects, including international ones.
Specialist seminars are planned regarding the valorization of research results and intellectual property. They will be held by professors involved in national and international research experiences, as well as by teaching staff and/or officials of the University structures operating in the field of attraction of resources and valorization of intellectual property. This activity will encourage the participation of doctoral students in seminars and cultural events both in Italy and abroad. Staff of the University Library Service will periodically hold seminars on the expanding phenomenon of Open Access.
